If you'd rather reload your linetypes manually, you can do so using the Layer Properties palette. Open the Layer Properties palette by typing Layer in the Command line and pressing Enter.

The Load or Reload Linetypes dialog box will open. Select any linetype. Then select all linetypes by pressing CTRL + A (Windows) or Command + A (Mac).
Simple linetype is a combination of lines and text, whereas complex linetype contains complex shapes. You can only create single-line linetypes, not double-lines, so keep that in mind when you are creating these.
Note, if you fail to generate a linetype (due to an error), be aware that there is a limitation of 12 line segments that can be included in a linetype definition, and gaps count toward that limit. So in the example above, I would need to change the spacing to .2 line length and .2 gap to have the double length between the CATV words.
The CELTSCALE is relative to LTSCALE. By setting CELTSCALE to 0.5 the next line you draw will have a linetype scale factor which is half that of the lines drawn previously.
this is a great article and yet, after studying all the options for linetype scale, trying out all combinations of settings, I still get solid lines that are supposed to be dashed. it is annoying to say the least, I am starting to think my old ways of adjusting linetype scales in the property box is the best way to get what you want. I have drawings where I generate schematics through Stabicad, and some lines will show dashed as supposed to, while generating a schematic in the next drawing gives me solids, while every setting for each drawing is exactly the same. please work on the bugs within autocad instead of flinging a new version with added frustration onto us. I am busy working around problems as much as I am actually working. every update by either stabi or auto will give you some new challenges to overcome. it never really gets any easier. after a million versions you would expect an expensive product to work.
i have autocad 2015 student version and my line settings are @ by default that means when i enter co-ordinates for the next point i takes previous point as the base point instead of the (0,0) can you help me out. please

In my case I draft a floorplan for example and some details in modelspace. The floorplan contains curves with the hidden linetype with a scale of 100 and 200 for example. The details contain curves with the same hidden linetype and scales of 2 and 10.
Dear Mcneel, I have another question:How should I work if I want that my linetype (dashed or so) looks exactly the same in the Top View and in the Layout, independent from the scale of the detail?
@milezee and @OXII There are a number of variables that can impact display speed and performance in any version of Rhino. Could you make new posts to the forum with a sample model, the steps before if becomes slow for you and include the results of your SystemInfo command in Rhino? If we can reproduce the issue we have a good shot at improving things or may be able to offer a settings or configuration change suggestion to help.
Hey guys, So I'm stuck using Rhino for mac while out of town this week. While its not...terrible, there are certain things that are really annoying. For instance, there is only one linetype added in the defaults. I'm trying to add or create linetypes so I can work how I like to work on drawings, however I can't figure it out. On a PC, you can just copy .lin files into the program files or import them, but on Mac...idk. There are limited options in the preferences menu.Also--the camera keeps clipping my geometry and its super annoying when I'm trying to look at details. (this is also a windows issue) If anyone know how to fix this it would be helpful because this has always happened to me when models get pretty heavy.Also--I have some pretty minimal double curvatures in my file that I built with the networksrf command. Before I modeled these, everything was fine. But now when I run a clipping plane to look at the model in section, the lines look extremely glitchy. I've tried to select and delete bad object but there aren't any. I've been fairly clean with my modeling.Lastly, has anybody had experience with a good rendering software for rhino mac? There's maxwell, but I'm not paying for that. Anything free with decent output?Any thoughts, suggestions, tips and tricks for mac? I think this thread might be helpful for a lot of other people too, so feel free to add.
Go to File -> Settings and there you can find a tab called linetypes. If it is empty, you can either add your own linetype, or load the default ones by clicking the small "gear" button under the list.

If yoffset is omitted or is 0, the text is elaborated by using the lower-left corner of the text as the offset. This value is not scaled by the scale factor that is defined by S=.
O.K. Now I'll put you all out of your misery! Under the Express Tools pull down menu (ExpressToolsMake Linetype) you will find the Make Linetype command. This is a shortcut for creating your own linetype files. The command can also be found on the Ribbon: Express tab, Tools panel. Now don't say I'm not nice to you!
AutoCAD saves linetype in an external file, with .lin extension. You can import the linetype definition into a DWG file and use it in a drawing. However, it is not possible to export the linetype back to .lin file. At least not with an out of the box AutoCAD.
I am running Autocad 2020 on a Mac OS. I am trying to turn all of my lines in one layer to be dashed instead of continuous. I loaded in a dashed linetype and have applied it to the layer I want. It doesn't change any existing lines to be dashed and doesn't make any new lines, polylines, splines, etc. dashed. It doesn't appear in model space, layout space or when I plot the layout.
